September 24, 2023 version 5.16.0

New and enhanced features

  • General features
    • Webinar Backstage
The webinar host and other panelists can move between the backstage area, which is not visible or heard by attendees, and the live webinar area, which is visible to and heard by attendees. Panelists backstage can still hear and view the live webinar to keep an eye on the presentation and know when to rejoin.
    • Improvement to display logic for attendees
Webinar hosts can control what Zoom Room attendees view, even in rooms with multiple displays.
    • Request remote control for all cameras in a multi-camera room
Users can request remote control of each PTZ camera in a multi-camera Zoom Room.
    • Simplified calibration process  for Intelligent Director
The calibration process has been simplified with fewer steps needed to configure Intelligent Director.
    • Support for joining Microsoft Teams Government Community Cloud High (GCC-H) meetings using Direct Guest Join (DGJ)
Zoom Rooms may now join Microsoft Teams GCC-H meetings when invited by calendar integration using the meeting list. Support for ad-hoc join of Teams GCC-H meetings by meeting ID and passcode is not supported (pending future Microsoft support). Support for Zoom Room Appliances is planned for a future release.
    • Support for Emergency Services integration with Zoom Phone
Zoom Rooms integrated with Zoom Phone can now provide location information when a user dials an emergency services phone number.
  • In-meeting features
    • Support Smart Meeting Summary
Hosts can initiate an AI generated summarization for the current meeting directly from a Zoom Room. Hosts will be prompted to enter an email address on the Zoom Room that the summary can be sent to. The ability to receive the meeting summary can be restricted to the host alone, the host along with users on their same account, or extended to all attendees of the meeting, including invitees outside of their organization. All meeting participants will be notified that the summary is being generated, and the meeting host can stop the summary at any time, if necessary.
    • Ask AI Companion questions about the meeting
Zoom’s AI Companion transcribes and analyzes the verbal discussions in Zoom Meetings, allowing participants to ask the AI Companion questions about the meeting content that has been discussed and receive a response based on the meeting analysis thus far. Admins can choose to have this option remain visible in the meeting toolbar, even when the feature is disabled in web settings. Meeting hosts can start and stop AI Companion from a Zoom Room for other participants. Participants in the Zoom Room itself cannot ask AI companion questions.
    • Enhanced captioning control for hosts/co-host
Hosts can have greater control of captioning use and the speaking language for the meeting. If enabled in web settings, captions can only be enabled by the host. Participants in the meeting can request captioning be enabled, which prompts the host (and co-hosts) to enable captioning and choose a speaking language.
    • Support for Intelligent director using two cameras
Intelligent Director can now support either two or three cameras Zoom Rooms systems.
    • Support for breakout rooms with end-to-end encryption
Breakout rooms can be used in Zoom Rooms meetings with end-to-end encryption enabled. This feature must be enabled by Zoom support.
    • Share content in Google Meetings
Users can share HDMI content from Zoom Rooms in Google meetings.
    • Updated recording notice
  • Management features
    • Limit network bandwidth for Zoom Rooms
Administrators can limit the amount of bandwidth allocated for audio and video in Zoom Rooms. These policies are intended for local networks known to have limitations at specific locations.
  • Scheduling display features
    • Increased visibility of Reserve Another Room
The visibility of the Reserve Another Room button has been increased on scheduling displays, and the button itself has been renamed to Switch Room. Users can tap this button to reserve a different room when they do not find a suitable time available for the current room on the scheduling display.
  • Zoom Whiteboard
    • Manage whiteboard sharing
Zoom Rooms users can control which participants can share whiteboards and who has control of the current shared board.

    • Companion Zoom Rooms for Touch device (Beta)
A Zoom Rooms for Touch device can be configured as a companion to an existing Zoom Room computer or appliance. This allows the Zoom Room to use the cameras of both devices, while only requiring one Zoom Rooms license.
    • Default to numeric keypad when manually joining a meeting
Some organizations use numeric passwords for meetings and do not need a lettered keypad to appear by default when joining meetings manually. Administrators can toggle the type of keypad that is shown by default, so switching is not necessary when inputting passwords.
  • In-meeting features

With Intelligent Director, Zoom’s software AI selects the best view of the in-room participants from the multiple input camera sources, increasing the potential clarity and resolution of the video streams displayed in the meeting.

Zoom Rooms users will be able to edit messages after they have been sent from the room and send reactions in chat. The reactions sent by others in the chat will also be visible to the users in the room.
    • Support for additional NDI output content types
Separate, dedicated outputs (with mixed audio) have been added for gallery view and multi-spotlight/multi-pin groupings.
    • Pause recording
Zoom Rooms users can pause a meeting recording on the controller or touch display.
  • Management features
    • Real-time statistics display
Administrators can use the Zoom Rooms controller or touch display to view real-time meetings and Zoom phone statistics for audio and video. This includes codec, resolution, bitrate, jitter, latency, and packet loss.
    • Disable automatic release for room check-in
Administrators can disable the room check-in automatic release feature. Once disabled, the room will not automatically release its reservation/booking if a user fails to check-in.
  • Controller features

Devices in BYOD mode will be able to use room controls.
  • Zoom for Home features

This requires version 5.14.0 or higher to use and/or view, but does not require this version to join the webinar.

This is currently supported on single display Zoom Rooms when using Gallery or Immersive view. Supported appliance devices are Poly X50, Poly X70, DTEN Me, DTEN On, and DTEN D7x CC.
    • In-meeting chat enhancements
Meeting participants can view emoji reactions and reply in threads to in-meeting chat messages.

  • Scheduling display features
    • Deleting reservations requires authentication
When a user wants to cancel a reservation on a scheduling display, the user must be authenticated. A QR code will appear for authenticating the user. Only the user who made the reservation, or an assigned delegate of that user, can delete the reservation from the scheduling display. Previously, any user could delete reservations for a Zoom Room or reservation-only rooms on a scheduling display.
    • Compact Theme for Scheduling Display
Admins can now select a compact theme for their scheduling displays. This theme has smaller text to accommodate content that may be displayed via their background. In addition, the compact theme also allows admins to add a QR code via the admin portal.
