Overview
Wired HDMI screen sharing is a one-plug method to share content from a laptop or mobile device to a Zoom Room. This uses an HDMI capture card to communicate between local device content with Zoom or a Zoom Room.
There are other methods to share content from your laptop or mobile device to a Zoom Room:
- Wireless direct sharing via proximity or sharing code
- Wireless sharing via share.zoom.us
- Wireless Airplay mirroring on macOS or iOS
This article covers:
- Prerequisites
- Automatic HDMI sharing
- Enabling manual HDMI sharing
- Changing the HDMI label
- Manual HDMI sharing
- Using 2 HDMI capture cards
- Setup for the Magewell HDMI Capture USB
Prerequisites
- Magewell USB-HDMI, Magewell DVI Plus, Inogeni 4k2USB3* or Logitech Screen Share
- Note: Other capture cards such as the Inogeni Share2U and Osprey Capture are camera source only
- Upgrade the Magewell GEN1 firmware for 16:9 capture (default is 16:10)
- Zoom Rooms for macOS, PC/PC Touch version 4.0x and higher
- Note: If you need 2 capture cards, they have to be 2 different brands (e.g. Magewell + Logitech). If two capture cards are used in the same room, only one can be used for content share at a time. The second card can be used to share a camera.
- (Optional) Kramer TP-580T and TP-580R for HDMI extension over Cat cabling

Automatic HDMI sharing
Wired HDMI sharing is automatic upon plugging in your laptop to the video capture device connected to the Zoom Room.
- Connect the HDMI cable to the sharing device's video output, connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the capture device, and then connect the USB end of the capture device into the Zoom Room computer.
The active video signal will automatically screen share your desktop to the output of the Zoom Room - Unplug the video cable to stop screen sharing.
Enabling manual HDMI sharing
You can disable the automatic detection by selecting the manual HDMI sharing option for Zoom Rooms. This may be useful when a device is always connected, such as a dedicated/fixed content computer.
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an account owner or admin.
- Click Room Management then Zoom Rooms.
- Find and click on the Zoom Room name.
- Click on the Edit button.
- Select the Meeting Settings tab.
- Turn on the "Start HDMI content share manually on controller" option.
Changing the HDMI label
In some instances, it may be best to change the label the Zoom Room uses to refer to the input from the capture device. Follow these steps if you want to change the default "HDMI" label for wired HDMI sharing:
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an account owner or admin.
- Click Room Management > Zoom Rooms.
- Find and click the Zoom Room name.
- Click on the Edit button.
- Select the Room Settings tab.
- In the Customize HDMI sharing label field, enter a custom label.
Manual HDMI sharing
- Start a Zoom Room meeting or click on Presentation
- Plug the capture device to your Zoom Room and the HDMI cable into HDMI port of the device you are sharing from.
It will screen share your desktop to a Zoom TV display - Unplug the HDMI cable to stop HDMI screen sharing.
Using 2 HDMI capture cards
To support two HDMI capture cards, you will need to use a 2nd HDMI capture device as camera share. One device will be recognized as a HDMI capture device, and the other will be recognized as a camera. Click the Share Content option, and choose your screen share device as the sharing camera.
