Elevating a Zoom Phone call to a Zoom meeting Follow

Overview

If you make a call using Zoom Phone, you can easily elevate the phone call to a Zoom meeting. The other user can be on an external phone service, Zoom desktop client, or Zoom mobile app.

Note: If you're in a Zoom meeting while in a Zoom Phone call, you can merge the call in to the meeting.

This article covers:

Prerequisites

  • Zoom desktop client for Windows, macOS, or Linux, 5.2.0 or higher
  • Zoom mobile app for Android or iOS, 5.2.0 or higher
  • Zoom Phone license
  • Elevating a call using the meeting URL requires the desktop client or mobile app 5.2.0 or higher

Note: Provisioned desk phones do not support elevating to a Zoom meeting. As a workaround, use call flip to transfer the call to the Zoom desktop client or mobile app, then follow this article to elevate the call.

Elevating a call to an instant meeting

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop client or mobile app.
  2. Make or receive a phone call using Zoom Phone.
  3. Click or tap Meet using the in-call controls.
Note: If you added a caller to the current call, merge the two calls to start a three-way call before elevating to a Zoom meeting. If you don't merge, the meeting will only start with the active call.

The following scenarios will happen depending on whether the other user is on the desktop client, mobile app, or regular phone line.
  • Zoom desktop client or mobile app: The other user will join the meeting if they accept the invite. If the user declines, the phone call will end.
  • Regular phone line: The other user will automatically join the meeting using phone audio.
  • Three-way call (at least one user on a regular phone): Any users on a regular phone will automatically join the meeting using phone audio. The user on the desktop client or mobile app will join the meeting if they accept the invite.
  • Three-way call (all users on the desktop client): All users will receive a meeting invite. The meeting will start if at least one user accepts the invite.

Elevating a call to a meeting by using the meeting URL

You can also elevate a call to an existing scheduled or instant meeting by entering the meeting URL.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop client or mobile app.
  2. Make or receive a phone call using Zoom Phone.
  3. Click or tap More using the in-call controls.
  4. Click or tap Invite to Meeting.
  5. Enter the meeting ID.
  6. Click Invite.
Note: If the meeting has Waiting Room enabled, the party being elevated to the meeting will be placed in the Waiting Room.
