Upcoming Release

Details about upcoming releases will be posted as they become available.

Current Release

Note: The mobile releases require additional approval from their respective app stores and may take a few additional days to be available for download.

November 28, 2021 version 5.8.6 (1820)

Note: This client release was originally scheduled for release on November 22, 2021.

Changes to existing features

  • Migration to MSAL authentication
In preparation for the deprecation of ADAL authentication, the Zoom for Intune app is migrating to using MSAL authentication. Intune admins will need to provide the Zoom app access to the Intune app protection service, which requires specific permission to DeviceManagementManagedApps.ReadWrite: Read and Write the User's App Management Data.

New and enhanced features

  • General features
    • Turkish and Polish language support
The Zoom client now supports Turkish and Polish. By default, Zoom will match the operating system’s language if supported and users can manually select a language of their choice.
  • Meeting/webinar features
    • Support for sending HD video on mobile devices
Supported devices will be able to enable HD video in app settings and send video up to 720p.
    • Compatibility enhancements for Smart Gallery
Various enhancements for how the client handles the multi-stream Smart Gallery view from a Zoom Room, such as moving all Zoom Room participants into a Breakout Room together, in-meeting chat messages are sent to the Zoom Room as a whole (instead of sent to individual members), and assigning the Zoom Room host controls, rather than an individual participant.
  • Webinar features
    • Order Q&A chronologically or by upvotes
User submitted Q&A questions are sorted by default chronologically, with the most recent appearing at the bottom of the list. The host and panelists can also sort the questions by number of upvotes, to prioritize more popular questions.
    • Guest indicator for submitted Q&A
Questions submitted by external attendees in a webinar will be labeled with the Guest marker, to make it clearer which questions are internally or externally submitted.
  • Chat features
    • Consolidated display of transferred files and images
When sending up to 6 files or images, the files/images are displayed in the same chat bubble, along with any accompanying text. This feature requires version 5.5.0 or higher and is not available when enhanced chat encryption is enabled.
  • Phone features
    • Caller verified icon for incoming calls
Zoom Phone will show “caller verified” check marks to help users identify robocalls and spam calls. A check mark icon appears if the carrier has authenticated the calling party and they are authorized to use the calling number. The check mark icon appears in the call log and inbound call notifications (client, app) for these inbound call scenarios:
      • Extension to extension calls in the same account
      • Call between Zoom Phone customers
      • Incoming calls from the U.S. public telephone network when the originating carrier has provided an A-level attestation per STIR/SHAKEN guidelines.

Resolved Issues

  • Resolved an issue regarding text entered using talk-to-text being unreviewable due to scroll being disabled

Notes:

  • The Add video to waiting room feature has been pulled from release pending some final enhancements.
  • The Conference barge for shared line groups was removed from release notes, as it is already available in an earlier version and will be available for use after the web update scheduled for November 21.

    • Information Disclosure Issue - ZSB-21020 and CVE-2021-34424

October 25, 2021 version 5.8.3 (1509)

New and enhanced features

  • Meeting/webinar features
    • Polling enhancements for quizzing
Account owners and admins can enable advanced polling to allow meeting hosts to build advanced polls or quizzes that contain multiple question/answer types, allow for images, and automatically record answers. New question/answer types include match combinations, rank answers, and fill in the blank. This feature requires version 5.8.3 or higher and currently must be enabled by Zoom. This will be enabled for all on November 7, 2021.
    • Profile photos for in-meeting chat
In-meeting chat now displays the participants’ profile photos, just as they appear in Zoom Chat. If no image is available for a participant, the participant’s initials appear. The account owner and admins can enable this for use in the Account-level web settings, and users can also control this feature in the client settings as well.
    • Full availability of Live Transcription
As promised earlier this year, Zoom’s Live Transcription service is now available for Free accounts. This enhancement provides access to Live Transcription for all account and user types. Live transcription must be enabled in the User-level Settings page for use in meetings and webinars.
    • Non-verbal feedback enhancement: Coffee cup
The Coffee cup option, indicating you are temporarily away from the meeting, is returning to Non-verbal feedback options in the mobile apps. This non-verbal feedback option feature requires client version 5.7.3 or higher.

  • Meeting features
    • Two-way chat with Waiting Room participants - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS
The meeting Host and Co-hosts can now chat back-and-forth with participants in the Waiting Room. Waiting Room messages can be sent to all participants in the Waiting Room or just individual participants. Only the host/co-host can see responses from those in the Waiting Room. This feature must be enabled in Waiting Room web settings and requires client version 5.8.0 or higher.

Resolved Issues

  • Minor bug fixes
  • Security enhancements
  • Resolved an issue regarding delays/freezes when connecting to meetings
  • Resolved an issue regarding country codes not being filtered by selected country
  • Resolved an issue for a subset of users regarding the inability to share again after pausing and then stopping sharing

September 22, 2021 Version 5.8.0 (1290)

New and enhanced features

  • General features
    • Additional MSI/PLIST/GPO options
      • Disable auto launch SSO URL - DisableAutoLaunchSSO
Disabled by default, this option prevents Zoom from automatically launching the previously used SSO URL. This is useful for users with multiple accounts, each having their own SSO URL.
    • Support for additional time zones
Scheduling on the client now supports the GMT -7 Yukon, GMT +2 Chisinau, and GMT +5:30 Colombo time zones, which were already supported when scheduling in the web portal.
  • Meeting/webinar features
    • Stop incoming video
Users in a meeting can easily disable all incoming video through in-meeting controls. This may be done to preserve bandwidth for shared content, or to avoid mental fatigue from viewing multiple, active video participants. The account owner and admins can enable this for use in meetings at the Account-, Group-, and User-level web settings. Once enabled through web settings, users must then enable it for use in the Desktop client's Video settings.
    • Poll access for alternative hosts
If meeting hosts add alternative hosts to their meeting, they can allow alternative hosts to add or edit polls. The alternative host in the meeting will have the additional in-meeting options to add or edit a poll, which launches the web portal to make the changes.
    • Notifications regarding conflicting microphone settings
When iOS users take advantage of new microphone settings, such as Standard, Voice Isolation, and Wide Spectrum, these OS-level settings may have an impact on microphone behavior within a meeting. If there is a conflict between OS and Zoom app settings, the user will be warned of the effect.
    • Hide self-view when sharing
When sharing their screen, users can swipe their self-view video panels towards the edge of the screen to temporarily hide that video panel. This allows them to see the entire screen without obstruction. Swiping away from the edge of the screen will make the self-view reappear.
    • Updated recording privacy disclaimer
The recording disclaimer has been updated to provide clearer information regarding how their data is being handled and who can access it.
  • Meeting features
    • Security settings overview
The host and co-host in a meeting can quickly check what security features are currently in effect for the meeting they are hosting. This information is accessible through the in-meeting encryption shield, located in the top-left corner of the meeting.
  • Chat features
    • Rich text formatting support
Enhanced rich text message capabilities allow for better chat messages formatting options. These options are available for composing a new message, replies, and editing messages. Expanded options for the desktop client include bold, italics, underlining, strikethrough, highlight and text color, font size, bulleted and numbered lists, hyperlinks, and indenting. Mobile apps will gain the ability to bold, italicize, strikethrough, underline, and create a bulleted or numbered list.
    • Quote messages
Users can quote specific messages sent in a channel, which helps avoid confusion and eliminates the need for others to scroll up to view the initial question or message. Images and bot messages cannot be quoted.
    • Additional customization for Personal Note
The Personal Note can be configured to display for a specific period of time, as well as appearing above the text input box when someone is composing a message to you. For example, a user may say they are Out of office for the next few days, and that note will appear above the drafted message when someone is chatting directly with or mentioning them, warning them of the user’s current unavailability.
    • Support for search and Link Previews with Advanced Chat Encryption
Chat history search and hyperlink previews are now supported when Advanced Chat Encryption is enabled. Search is limited to messages that have already been decrypted and are stored on the device being used to perform the search. Link previews must first be enabled by the account admin in the web portal, as the default for this setting is off.
    • Clearer notification when converting a group-chat into a channel
When a multi-user chat is named, this converts the group chat into an official chat channel. The user changing the channel will be more informed of the effect of the change, and other users in the group will be notified of the changes as well, helping them locate the channel by its new name.
  • Zoom Phone features
    • UI enhancement to phone number labels
When searching for phone users using the dial pad or SMS search field, users can view the associated phone number labels by clicking or tapping the right arrow icon.
    • Prompt for emergency address
If the admin has enabled nomadic emergency services and personal locations; or allowed users to manage their emergency address, users will receive prompts to confirm or update their emergency addresses until they do so.

Resolved Issues

  • Minor bug fixes
  • Security enhancements
  • Resolved an issue regarding slow connections after switching networks
  • Resolved an issue for a subset of users regarding mute upon entry and recording disclaimer prompts
  • Resolved an issue for a subset of users regarding duplicated virtual background images set by admins

  • Due to compatibility issues, we are rolling back the MSAL authentication for Zoom for iOS (Intune), which was released with version 5.7.6, and will be implementing this in an upcoming release.

  • Meeting/webinar features
    • Transfer meetings between devices
Seamlessly transition meetings from mobile to desktop and back to mobile, allowing you to take advantage of the mobility of the mobile client and the more feature-rich desktop client to suit your needs. This feature will not be immediately available, as it is dependent on a web release currently scheduled for August 21, 2021, and will be rolled out to customers over time.
  • Meeting features
    • Limit screen sharing for meetings with external participants

    • Chat sidebar enhancements
Further quality-of-life enhancements to the chat sidebar, including easy and clear designation if a channel is public or private. For the desktop clients, fewer chats/channels are shown per group, as well as the ability to expand to see more, in order to provide greater overall visibility of all chats and channels.
  • Phone features
    • Privacy feature for shared lines
If enabled by an account owner and admin, shared line group and shared line appearance members can lock their current call. This prevents others from picking up a held call, listening, whispering, barging, or taking over the call.
    • Company phone number while in a call
Phone users can view their own company number and extension while in a call. Previously, only the extension was displayed.
    • Phone number labels
