Updating your Zoom Rooms to version 5.0.5

Please ensure your Zoom Rooms and Controllers are running versions 5.0.5 or above by August 16, 2020. Zoom Rooms and Zoom Rooms Controller version 5.0.5 will be released on July 5. This minimum version is required for the room to function, because enhanced (256-bit AES GCM) encryption between rooms and controllers will be required on this date. See details about enhanced encryption.

Starting August 16, if the Zoom Rooms or Controller is not running versions 5.0.5 or above, the Zoom Rooms Controller will disconnect from the Zoom Rooms computer and the room will no longer function. Zoom Clients will need to be on version 5.1.1 or above for the best direct share experience.

As of May 30, 256-bit AES GCM encryption has been enabled for all meetings during transit. If a Zoom Room that is not running 5.0.0 or above attempts to join a Zoom meeting, the Zoom Rooms will not be able to join and an error message will be displayed. Administrators must upgrade the Zoom Rooms.

How to upgrade Zoom Rooms using the Zoom web portal

IT admins can upgrade Zoom Rooms to 5.0.5+ in the Zoom web portal to meet the minimum version requirements.

Note:

• Neat Bar Zoom Rooms Appliances are auto-upgraded by Neat. An auto-upgrade to 5.0.5 will be initiated in mid-July.
• Poly X30, X50, G7500 and DTEN Zoom Rooms Appliances will need to be upgraded individually (update by location and by account is not supported).
• Poly X30, X50, G7500 will release firmware with Zoom Rooms version 5.0.5 in mid-July.

How to upgrade the Zoom Rooms Controller

On August 16, 2020: Zoom Rooms will have enhanced encryption between Zoom Rooms Controller and Zoom Rooms enabled. Zoom Rooms Controllers (including Zoom Rooms Scheduling Displays) not running the minimum versions will no longer function. Please update your Zoom Rooms Controller software to meet minimum version 5.0.5 in order to ensure your Zoom Rooms is running properly by August 16, 2020. We recommend that you enroll Zoom Rooms Controllers in Zoom Device Management to enable remote software updates for the future.

Upgrading Embedded Android Zoom Rooms Controllers

• Upgrading Zoom Rooms Controller on Poly Trio
• Upgrading Zoom Rooms Controller on Crestron Mercury and Crestron TSS/ TSW: Crestron will upgrade all devices to 5.0.5 via their auto-update mechanism in mid-July

Frequently asked questions

The Zoom Rooms Controller lost connection to the Zoom Rooms. What should I do?
Because Zoom Rooms and Controllers will require a minimum version of 5.0.5 starting August 16, if the Zoom Room or Controller does not meet these requirements, it will need to be upgraded by the room administrator. 

Do I need to upgrade the Zoom Rooms and Zoom Rooms Controller at the same time?
You must upgrade your Zoom Rooms and Zoom Rooms Controllers to versions 5.0.5 or above by August 16 in order for them to continue to function. We encourage you to upgrade both as soon as possible, but there is no particular order in which they need to be upgraded. 

Prior to Aug 16, if you are deploying a new Zoom Rooms, or signing into Zoom Rooms on version 5.x, the Zoom Rooms Controller must be upgraded to versions 5.0 or higher to utilize the pairing code. Alternatively, you can sign in or enter the activation code on the Zoom Rooms and Zoom Rooms Controller individually. After Aug 16, all Zoom Rooms and Zoom Rooms Controllers must be on versions 5.0.5 in order to connect.

How does this affect screen sharing in Zoom Rooms?
Starting Aug 16, Zoom Clients will need to be on version 5.1.1 or above for the best direct share experience.

Zoom Clients that are not on versions 5.1.1 or above will still be able to share in Zoom Rooms, however, the experience will be different. If passcode is enabled, you will need to enter the passcode in order to start sharing; if waiting room is enabled, you will need to be admitted before you can start staring. 

I’m trying to join a meeting from a Zoom Rooms and getting “We encountered an issue. Error code: 1137”
This is because this Zoom Rooms is on versions below 4.5.0. Your Zoom Rooms does not support GCM and must be upgraded to 5.0 or above to join meetings.

Are there any OS requirements for Zoom Rooms 5.0?
If you have a Zoom Rooms for macOS, macOS version 10.10 or higher is required.
