Setting up firmware update rules

Last Updated:

By default, provisioned Cisco, Yealink and Poly devices will automatically upgrade to the latest supported firmware version. If you don't want devices to be automatically upgraded, you can set rules for the firmware version allowed on devices. This allows you to keep specific device models up to 2 versions behind the latest supported firmware version.

Note: Make sure to review our firmware update guidelines before changing firmware update rules.

This article covers:

Prerequisites for setting up firmware update rules

  • Pro, Business, or Education account
  • Account owner or admin privileges
  • Zoom Phone license

Limitations of firmware update rules

  • Adding a firmware update rule will only allow you to keep the firmware version up to 2 versions behind the latest supported firmware version. When you have a rule that is set to 3 or more versions behind, you will see a warning in the web portal asking you to update the rule.
  • Not all Poly and Yealink devices support firmware update rules. If you don't see a certain device when adding a rule, it isn't supported.

How to view firmware provisioned for devices

You can view the firmware version that provisioned devices are running by viewing the list of desk phones / ATAs (unassigned or assigned) or common area phones. Dashes are displayed if the device isn't provisioned or doesn’t support firmware version sharing.

When viewing the device list, click the gear icon and select Firmware Version to add a column that contains the firmware version. This column can be toggled on or toggled off.
