Linking a PayPal Business account to your OnZoom Host account Follow

PayPal is a simple and powerful way to accept payments online for OnZoom events. You can also link a Stripe account as an alternative online payment platform.

This article covers:

Prerequisites for linking a PayPal Business account to your OnZoom Host account

  • Zoom desktop client
    • Windows: 5.6.5 (823) or higher
    • macOS: 5.6.4 (765) or higher
  • Zoom mobile client
    • iOS: 5.6.4 (308) or higher
    • Android: 5.6.4 (1862) or higher
  • Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Education account

How to link a PayPal Business account to your OnZoom Host account

You can create a new PayPal Business account and link it to your OnZoom Host account as you complete the OnZoom onboarding process or you can link it at a later date.

Notes:

  • A new Stripe account must be created when linking to your OnZoom Host account. You cannot link an existing Stripe account. The new Stripe account is the only one that can be linked to—and subsequently unlinked from—your OnZoom Host account.
  • If you want to link a new Stripe account, you will need to create a new OnZoom Host account.

Link a PayPal Business account during the Host onboarding process

Note: Your account must be approved to be an OnZoom Host before you can apply to be an OnZoom Host.

Once you have been approved to be an OnZoom Host, continue with the onboarding process to create a new PayPal Business account and link it to your OnZoom Host account.

After you have been approved to become an OnZoom Host:

  1. To the right of the PayPal logo, click Link.
    You will be redirected to the PayPal Business account onboarding process.
  2. Enter your email address, then click Next.
    • Click Connect or Sign up for a PayPal Business account.
    • Follow the prompts on the PayPal site to link your existing account or create and link a new account.
  3. (Optional) On the Billing address page, enter the billing address for your organization or business.
    Note: You will not be able to create paid events if you do not add a billing address to your PayPal Business account.
  4. (Optional) If your organization qualifies for tax exemption, submit your tax-exemption information.
  5. Click Create Event.

You will receive an email once your PayPal Business account is successfully linked to your OnZoom Host account.

Link a PayPal Business account after the Host onboarding process

You can create a new PayPal Business account and link it to your OnZoom Host account after the onboarding process if your OnZoom Host account:

  • Is not already linked to a PayPal Business account
  • Does not have pending charges to resolve

To link a PayPal Business account to your OnZoom Host account after the Host Onboarding process:

  1. Sign in to OnZoom.
  2. In the top-right corner, click Manage.
  3. On the left side of the page, click Billing Information.
  4. To the right of the PayPal logo, click Link.
  5. Enter your email address, then click Next.
  6. Enter your billing address information, then click Continue.
    Note: You can skip this section, but if you do not add a billing address to your PayPal Business account, you will not be able to create paid events.
  7. Click Create Event.

You will receive an email once your PayPal Business account is successfully linked to your OnZoom Host account.

How to link a PayPal Business account to your OnZoom Host account

In order to successfully link a PayPal Business account to your OnZoom Host account, you will need to:

  • Link a previously created and approved PayPal Business account, or
  • Create a new PayPal Business account and link to it

When creating a new PayPal Business account, you will need to do the following to link your new account successfully, otherwise you will be taken back to OnZoom without your accounts linked:

  • Link your bank account, and
  • Confirm your PayPal account's email address
    Note: This email is sent from PayPal and can take up to 4 hours to arrive in your inbox.

How to publish OnZoom events with scheduling limitations with PayPal

When you create an event and PayPal is the online payment platform linked to your OnZoom Host account, you will be able to publish a paid event up to 29 days before it is scheduled to start on the PayPal Business account dashboard.

However, if your Zoom Events Host account is linked to both a PayPal Business and Stripe account, you will be able to publish a paid event up to 89 days before it is scheduled to start.

How to manage billing

Update billing information

To update your account's billing information:

  1. Sign in to OnZoom.
  2. In the top-right corner of the page, click Manage.
  3. On the left side of the page, click Billing Information.
  4. Under Your Address, enter the required information.
    Note: It is not required to provide a billing address, but you will not be able to create paid events without one on file.
  5. Click Save.

How to manage your PayPal Business account dashboard

The PayPal Business account dashboard is where you operate and configure your PayPal Business account account, manage payments and refunds, and respond to disputes. Useful information about your account activity can also be seen at a glance.

Approve or reject refunds

Refund requests made within 14 days after an event's end date can be approved or rejected from within OnZoom.

For refund requests that are made 15 days or after an event's end date, you will need to sign in to your PayPal Business account to approve or reject the refund request.

Manage chargebacks

PayPal deducts a $15.00 dispute fee per transaction for users in the United States. The High Volume Dispute Fee will be charged when certain criteria are met.

View reports

Reports can be viewed as a summary report from the dashboard, or downloaded as a CSV file to see itemized transaction data.

View United States sales taxes

Taxes vary by region. It is recommended to check with a qualified accountant to see if any taxes should be included in your charges.

If tax needs to be collected, the amount to be collected will be displayed to the purchaser at checkout. OnZoom will collect and remit the tax on your behalf.

Any sales tax collected will be displayed as the Partner Fee in the transaction fee located in your PayPal Business account dashboard.

How to follow the PayPal payout schedule

The normal payout times for OnZoom events are:

  • Event: Receive payment 3-21 days after the event ended.
  • Series: Receive payment 3-21 days after the first event in the series ended.

Note: Holds with new merchant accounts can take place for multiple reasons, and PayPal may hold the money in the Host's pending balance for up to 21 days. Contact PayPal if funds are delayed, and they can instruct you on how to speed up delivery.

How to differentiate PayPal fees

PayPal charges a processing fee for each successful charge. The charge can differ between countries.

Customers pay with their PayPal account (Express Checkout) or with credit/debit card through PayPal (Guest Checkout)

Holds with new merchant accounts can take place for multiple reasons.When some sellers receive payments, PayPal may hold the money in their pending balance for up to 21 days.

PayPal's risk engine can place holds (especially on new accounts that have zero processing history) if PayPal does not have everything with the business account confirmed or is asking the business to provide more info regarding what they are selling.

How to unlink a PayPal Business account from your OnZoom Host account

You can unlink your PayPal Business account from your OnZoom Host account if your account does not have an active:

  • Published event with sales of paid tickets
  • Paid event
  • Pending transaction

All three conditions must be met to unlink your PayPal Business account from your OnZoom Host account.

Note: When unlinking, it is recommended that your PayPal account is unlinked from within the OnZoom platform only. If you unlink your OnZoom Host account directly from your PayPal account in PayPal:

  • You will no longer be able to sell tickets through the OnZoom platform through PayPal.
  • There will be a delay of up to 1 day to reconnect/link to the OnZoom platform.

To unlink a PayPal Business account from your OnZoom Host account:

  1. Sign in to OnZoom.
  2. In the top-right corner of the page, click Manage.
  3. On the left side of the page, click Billing Information.
  4. Under the email registered to your PayPal Business Account, click Unlink.
    Note: You will be redirected to PayPal's website. Follow the prompts to unlink your PayPal Business account.
