Release notes for the Zoom client

For full notes including version numbers, please see the operating system release notes.
Windows | macOS | Linux | iOS* | Android

*The iOS release requires Apple approval and may take a few additional days to appear in the App Store.

Note : The client release has been delayed until May 25, 2021.

New and enhanced features

  • General features
    • Additional MSI/GPO options - Windows, macOS
      • Enable Silent Automatic Update - EnableSilentAutoUpdate
Disabled by default in the MSI package, this option allows the desktop client to silently check for updates and install upon launching the client. This option requires the existing AutoUpdate option to be enabled, which allows the client to check for updates, and if this is disabled, EnableSilentAutoUpdate will fail. The macOS version will just silently check for updates, but will not automatically install them.
      • Persistent Notification Banners until Dismissed - AlwaysShowIMNotificationBanner
Disabled by default, this option will force on the “Show notification banner on screen until dismissed” setting within the Chat settings of the client.
      • Disable Accessing Zoom Apps in Client - DisableZoomApps
This MSI/GPO option is disabled by default, and, when enabled, prevents access to Zoom Apps in the client. Zoom Apps is not included within this release. This option is being shared in advance so organizations have sufficient time to review, test, and deploy this setting if desired.
  • Meeting/webinar features
    • Virtual Background enhancements - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS
Account admins can require users to use virtual background when their video is on, as well as set a default virtual background from the default or custom uploaded options. If the device does not meet the system requirements for virtual background, the user is not able to turn on their video.
    • Mobile support for Blurred background - Android, iOS
Mobile users can now choose to blur their background rather than selecting a specific virtual background, providing added privacy when a branded background is unavailable or unnecessary.
    • Gallery view enhancements - iOS (iPad only)
When viewing participants in Gallery view, an active speaker is relocated to the current page you are viewing, making it easier to recognize who is speaking without having to flip through pages to find the speaker. This is not supported when utilizing a custom gallery view order. Newer model iPads also now support up to 48 video participants per page, as well as pinch-to-zoom.
    • Support for iPad Pro Center Stage face tracking feature - iOS (iPad only)
The Zoom app takes advantage of the new Center Stage face tracking ability released with 2021 iPad Pros, which tracks the user as they move within the possible video frame. This can be enabled/disabled through an in-meeting option when the device supports this feature, and the decision is remembered for future meetings.
    • Enhanced data privacy notices for live streaming - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS
Participants are notified when live streaming begins regarding who can see, save, and share the information before they provide it.
    • Improved low-light adjustment for backlit environments - Windows, macOS
Participants with a backlit environment are brightened while the lighting behind them is unaffected.
    • Enhanced 3D transformation of video filters - Windows, macOS
Improvements to video filter rendering, providing better 3D effects and transformations when applied to face.
  • Meeting features
    • Enhanced data privacy notices for archived meetings - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS
When joining a meeting that is being archived or archiving begins, participants are notified regarding who can see, save, and share the information before they provide it.
  • Webinar features
    • Enhanced data privacy notices for panelists and unmuted attendees - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS
Joining as a panelist, promoted panelists, and attendees allowed to speak will be informed of the change to who can see, save, and share the information before they provide it with their increased role in a webinar.
    • Enhanced data privacy notices for joining webinar without registration - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS
In-context user education for joining a webinar without registration that informs users who can see, save, and share the information before they provide it.
  • Phone features
    • Add email address for cloud contacts - Windows, macOS, Linux
Users can enter an email address when adding or editing a synced cloud contact.
