Outlook IM integration common problems

Last Updated:

The Outlook IM integration allows users to integrate the Zoom IM function into Outlook. This article will help you with some of the common issues from the previous releases.

This article covers:

After uninstalling the Zoom desktop client (including the Zoom VDI Client), my Skype for Business integration stops working

  1. This is a known issue for Zoom desktop client versions older than the 5.6.6 release and Zoom VDI Client versions older than the 5.5.8 release.
  2. This problem can also be fixed if you install the latest version of the Zoom desktop client or Zoom VDI Client.
  3. If the user must use a Zoom VDI Client version older than the 5.5.8 release, then please run the PowerShell script to repair.

When I use the APPV to deploy the Zoom VDI client after I upgrade to a new version, the Zoom outlook IM integration does not work

  • If you use APPV to deploy Zoom VDI client, please make sure you enable Allow All COM Objects to Interact with local systems. You can do so by editing your APPV package, and check this option from Advanced tab.

Can I deploy two different APPV Zoom VDI client at the same time?

  • No, it will break the outlook IM integration function. If you don’t need the outlook integration function, please make sure you uncheck Allow All Com Objects to Interact with local systems during packaging.

When I use the APPV to deploy the Zoom VDI client, after I upgrade to a new version, my Skype for business outlook integration does not work

  1. Please make sure you unpublish the older APPV package before publishing the new APPV package.
  2. Please check if you have a mechanism to backup and restore the HKCU registry keys. It could cause the skype for business outlook IM integration function broken because the wrong HKCU registry keys are restored, as it points to a non-existing zoom APPV package location.
  3. If problem happens, please run the CleanZoom tool on the impacted system.

How to use the CleanZoom.exe for recovering HKLM/HKCR/all users' HKCU registry keys

  • Run “CleanZoom.exe /check_skype_regkey” as administrator to check if any registry keys need to to recover. Log will be located in the some folder of CleanZoom tool.
Note: This command will stop running your Zoom client automatically but will not uninstall your Zoom client.
  • Run “CleanZoom.exe /restore_skype_regkey” as administrator to recover registry keys to make skype for business work.
Note: This command will stop running your Zoom client automatically but will not uninstall your Zoom client.

How to use the Script skb_repair.ps1 for recovering HKCU registry keys

  1. Download the skb_repair.ps1 file.
  2. Start PowerShell as administrator.
  3. Run “set-executionpolicy unrestricted” in PowerShell, and type "Y" to allow this setting.
  4. Run "&.\skb_repair.ps1" to repair HKCU.
  5. Log is in "C:\temp\skb_repair.log".
