Current Release

September 26, 2022 version 5.12.0

New and enhanced features

  • General features
    • One-time password requirement for suspicious logins
When Zoom Rooms administrators sign in to a Zoom Room using their work email and password, they may be asked to enter a one-time password, sent to their account email, when Zoom detects a suspicious login. A login may be considered suspicious if it originates from a different country or device, among other factors.  After entering the one-time password, the sign in will succeed.
    • Display gender pronouns
If enabled by account admins and added to their profile by either the user directly or through SAML mapping, a user’s gender pronouns are displayed in their contact card and as part of their display name in meetings and webinars.
    • Joining personal meetings (PMI)
Users can populate their “location” field with their PMI and allow others to join that individual’s personal meeting ID if listed.
  • In-meeting features
    • Thumbnail View Enhancements
The Thumbnail view can be used in Zoom Rooms with multiple screens, and the view can be configured to display the film strip above or below the active speaker (this does not apply to Zoom Rooms for Touch).
    • Zoom Translated Captions
Zoom Rooms in meetings where the host has a Zoom Translated License will be able to pick between multiple closed captioning channels such as CART, Live Transcription, and Live Transcription translations.
    • Support up to 25 custom languages for interpretations
The number of custom language interpretations allowed for a scheduled meeting has been upgraded to 25.
    • Meeting assistant updates
Meetings assistants are displayed as participants in meetings they join. Assistants can change the name displayed in the participants menu when joining.
    • High Fidelity Audio mode
Zoom Rooms has added a High Fidelity Audio option in the client to allow for professional audio transmission in music education and performance applications. Professional audio interface, microphone, and headphones are recommended.
    • Share screen and audio to all Breakout Rooms
When sharing screen in the main session, the host or co-host can share their screen to all active Breakout Rooms. Computer audio and video audio from a screen share can also be shared.
    • Support for Smart Gallery in E2EE meetings
    • Enhanced in-meeting user abuse reporting
Simplified process for meeting attendees to report abuse to Zoom.
    • Additional chat settings
Meeting and Webinar hosts can tap the Security button on the Zoom Rooms user interface to set the chat privileges for participants, attendees and panelists.
    • Live streaming notification
All attendees will see a notification when the meeting or webinar host starts a live stream. Attendees who join the session after the live stream has started will be notified when they enter.
  • Management features
    • Microsoft Teams Meetings join preference
When administrators enable Support 3rd party conferencing dial-in for Zoom Rooms and the Support Microsoft Teams web client meeting on Zoom Rooms option on the web portal, they can optionally elect to use Microsoft Teams Cloud Video Interop (CVI) information, if present, to join the meeting via SIP. If no Microsoft Teams Cloud Video Interop (CVI) information is present, Direct Guest Join will be used to join the meeting.
    • Passcode failure alerts
Zoom administrators are notified via webhook, Dashboard, and email when someone in a Zoom Room has failed to enter the correct passcode three times within a 24 hour period. Alerts are automatically cleared at the beginning of the next day.
    • Cloud recording limit
If a participant tries to record a meeting after the cloud recording storage limit is reached, the Zoom Room will display a message explaining why the meeting can't be recorded.
    • Hide caller ID
Administrators can choose to hide the outbound caller ID for their Zoom Rooms by configuring their settings for Zoom Phone.
    • Disable in-meeting chat
Administrators can disable the display of in-meeting chat for Zoom Rooms.
  • Controller features
    • Camera switching enhancement
Switching cameras in a room with only two cameras will carry out the switch without prompting the user to select the camera first.
    • User interface updates
The controller user interface (UI) has been updated to provide a more consistent experience. The new UI aligns with the Zoom desktop and mobile clients, matches Zoom’s current branding, and provides an optimized information architecture to better meet user needs.
  • Zoom for Home features
    • Transfer meetings to Personal Zoom Rooms
Users attending an ongoing meeting with their mobile or desktop client can transfer the meeting to their Personal Zoom Room. The ongoing meeting will appear on the touch screen or controller meeting list, along with the Switch button.
    • User presence status options
Personal Zoom Room users can set their status to “busy”, in addition to “available”, “away”, and “do not disturb”. If contacts set their status to “busy” that status will be displayed when viewing the contact list.
    • Touch up my appearance
Gives the picture display a softer focus and enhances digital appearance in real-time when enabled.

April 24, 2022 version 5.10.3 (1320)

New and enhanced features

  • General features
    • Zoom Whiteboard
The virtual whiteboarding experience has been redesigned to bring you the all-new Zoom Whiteboard, a cross-platform visual collaboration solution. With Zoom Whiteboard, you can brainstorm and collaborate on a persistent, expandable, digital canvas. All Zoom Rooms can open, view and save whiteboards from a desktop client paired to the Zoom Room. Zoom Rooms for Touch can also create and save whiteboards. This feature is separate from the “classic” whiteboard feature, which will continue to be available. The administrative controls for the new Zoom Whiteboard on Zoom Rooms are found in the Zoom web portal on the Zoom Rooms account settings page, and on the pages for lower tiers of the Zoom Rooms location hierarchy.

April 2, 2022 version 5.10.0 (1233)

New and enhanced features

  • General features
    • User interface updates
The Zoom Rooms user interface (UI) has been updated to provide a more consistent experience. The new UI aligns with the Zoom desktop and mobile clients, matches Zoom’s current branding, and provides an optimized information architecture to better meet user needs. The in-meeting experience has been updated for Windows, Mac, and iPad Zoom Rooms. It has also been updated for Zoom Rooms Appliances and iOS and Android Zoom Rooms controllers. The out-of-meeting experience has been updated for Windows-attached and Web Zoom Rooms controllers. See our blog post for more information.
    • Removal of Calendar Integration error message
Previously, when a Zoom Room was not linked to a calendar, a prominent error on the Zoom Rooms Controller home page appeared: "This room needs to be connected to a calendar. Contact your Zoom Rooms admin". This error message has been updated to suggest that connection to a calendar is not mandatory. Organizations that do not wish to connect their Zoom Rooms to a calendar can have their admins hide the upcoming meetings list on Zoom Rooms Controllers, which removes the message completely.
    • Troubleshooting logs for Microsoft Teams meetings
Participants in a Microsoft Teams Direct Guest Join meeting can send logs to Microsoft.
  • In-meeting features
    • Live transcription (automated captions) notification
If saving transcripts (captions) is disabled for the meeting, attendees will be notified.
    • Support for Smart Gallery
Zoom Rooms Smart Gallery view displays multiple video feeds from a single conference room. This allows the Zoom Rooms cameras to focus more closely on participants and display these people more clearly to remote attendees. Smart gallery is enabled by tapping Multi-stream on the Zoom Room Controller. More info.
    • Enhanced in-meeting user abuse reporting
Users submitting reports will be required to include their email addresses.
    • Screen sharing indicator
The green Share Content button on the room controller will change to a red Sharing Content button when a screen share initiated by the Zoom Room is in progress.
    • Virtual background delay
If a user’s virtual background fails to load, a prompt will appear with the option to start the video without it.
    • Focus mode
In focus mode, only the host can see participants’ videos or profile pictures when video is off. Participant screen sharing can only be viewed by the host, who can switch between multiple shared screens and allow participants to view others’ shared screens. Administrators can enable Focus mode for use in meetings via the web portal.
  • Management features
    • Microsoft calendar authentication notification
Microsoft plans to disable basic authentication for Microsoft Exchange Web Services for Office 365. If a Zoom Room calendar integration to a Microsoft O365 calendar service encounters authentication errors because of this change, a notification message will display.  Customers are encouraged to update any Zoom Rooms calendar integration with Microsoft O365 to use OAuth instead of basic authentication by re-authorizing their calendar integration in the Zoom admin portal.

    • Virtual background enhancements
Account admins can require users to use virtual background when their video is on, as well as set a default virtual background from the default or custom uploaded options. If a device does not support virtual background and the attempt is made to turn it on, the participant will be notified and their video turned off.
  • Management features

    • Blurred background
