Zoom blurred background option is not available

Last Updated:

If you are unable to find the blur background option, your computer processor may have a generation that is not supported. To use the blurred background feature, your device must meet specific system requirements. This feature requires significantly more CPU (central processing unit) and GPU (graphics processing unit) power than using a virtual background with a green screen.

For a full list of requirements, refer to the virtual background without a green screen system requirements, which are the same for the blurred background feature.

How to find the generation of a computer processor

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Click System.
  3. In the left-side navigation menu, scroll down and click About.

You will see device specifications listed. Next to Processor, the generation of your processor can be determined by the first digit (or two) of the processor number that appears after the hyphen (-), while the remaining 3 digits are the model number. For example, an Intel i7-6700 is the 700 model of the 6th generation of i7 processors.

Note: For Windows 11 users, the generation appears before the processor name. For example, 11th Gen Intel i7-1185.

For a full list of specifications for using blurred background on a Windows device, view the requirements listed for Windows under Image only without a green screen.

For macOS devices, you must have 6th generation or later.

  1. Locate the Finder icon in your Dock.
  2. Right-click on the icon, then click New Finder Window.
  3. In the new window, click Applications.
  4. Open the Utilities folder.
  5. Open the Terminal application.
  6. Enter the following command:
    sysctl machdep.cpu.brand_string
