Release notes for Zoom Phone Hybrid Local Survivability module

The Zoom Phone Local Survivability (ZPLS) module leverages the platform and OS provided by Zoom Node and is distributed as a Linux-based appliance that is spun up on an on-premises VMware ESXi host.

Changes to existing features

  • Support for multiple ELIN with Local Survivability
    Admins can now configure multiple ELIN numbers to a Survivability instance. This allows ELIN numbers associated with different locations to be assigned to a single ZPLS-enabled site. Admins can also define an outbound caller ID with a BYOC number that will be used by users when making an outbound call in Survivability mode. This outbound caller ID will also be used by extension only users who will be allowed to make calls during Survivability mode. Submit a request to Zoom Support to enable ZPLS ELIN Pool and ZPLS Outbound Caller ID for your account.

Changes to existing features

  • Support for multiple network interfaces
    Node servers utilizing multiple Network Interface Cards (NIC), can now assign multiple IP addresses to a Local Survivability module. When using multiple addresses, addresses can be assigned to either Zoom Desktop clients (soft client) or Deskphones, Zoom Rooms, and Zoom Phone Appliances (phyisical phones).
  • Support for listening across multiple IP addresses
    Admins can now assign multiple IP addresses when using multiple Network Interface Cards (NIC).

  • Resolved an issue where a native Zoom Phone number could not be forwarded to a trunk utilizing the Local Survivability module.

    The minimum supported version for Zoom clients to support local survivability is now 5.15.0 to address a security issue. Admins need to ensure their users' clients are up to date for full functionality.

    The ZPLS module now has a tool for testing the health of the ZPLS server including, running test calls to verify functionality. This tool is useful when troubleshooting issues with the ZPLS module.

  • Routing rules for the ZPLS module
    Administrators can now enable the option to have the ZPLS module utilize routing rules based on the routing rule configuration at the account and site level.
  • Support for receiving calls via extensions in Local Survivability mode
    When Local Survivability is enabled, users can now receive calls dialed via extensions (not using the E164 format).
  • Enable ZPLS at the user group level
    Administrators can now enable ZPLS at the Zoom Phone user group level, instead of the account or site level. If not enabled at the group level, users will still have access if enabled at the site level.

  • Support for dedicated IP and peering port for SBC use
    When configuring an SBC, admins can now specify the peer IP address and port utilized for communication with ZPLS modules.

Changes to existing features

  • Changes to call forwarding
    During failover, if Call Forwarding is enabled for a Zoom Phone number, call forwarding will be simultaneous instead of sequential. Additionally, there are UI changes for how call forwarding is handled during failover.
    Note: This feature is dependent on the upcoming Zoom Phone release, which will be released on November 20, 2022.
